Prices of the new iPad 3 in Thailand

The new iPad (3rd generation) has only just been officially launched in the US and shops in MBK in Bangkok already have it in stock. This is probably because it is also being officially sold in Hong Kong and Singapore. According to the website Siampod, the prices that they surveyed at MBK are reasonable starting at 18,xxx Baht. This is much cheaper compared to when the iPad 1 and 2 were sold here. Maybe this time because the novelty has worn off and that there isn’t much of a difference between iPad 2 and iPad 3.

These are the prices quoted by Siampod. You might find cheaper/more expensive if you go yourself:

iPad 3 WiFi: 18K (16GB), 22K (32GB), 26K (64GB)
iPad 3 WiFi + 4G: 29K (16GB), 33K 32GB), 38K (64GB)

If I was buying one this time round, I would go for the iPad 3 WiFi, either the 32GB (enough with some spare disk space) or 64GB (plenty of space for growth)

We don’t have an official release date for Thailand yet for the iPad 3 but we expect it to be about mid-May 2012. This is based on the timeframe for the iPad 2. We are also expecting these prices for the new iPad:

iPad 3 WiFi: 16GB 15,900 Baht, 32GB 18,900 Baht and 64GB 21,900 Baht *
iPad 3 WiFi + 4G: 16GB 19,900, 32GB 22,900 and 64GB 25,900 *

* not confirmed

Spent the day shopping at MBK for iPad 3. Haven’t seen any at this price. All the shops that could get one (they don’t have them on display) were asking 12,000 baht more than the prices mentioned above.

Thanks for the comment. I’m in Ayutthaya at the moment but will check on this when I get back. I guess it was too good to be true. If its that expensive then best to wait for the official release in a few months.

    Hi Richard!
They told me that the prices may drop a bit maybe next week when they receive more from Hong Kong. They don’t have them on display at the moment and I think they have only a few at MBK. They seem to contact the same “provider” with all the same price list. The prices shown above are the exact same prices from the apple store when they get them officially in Thailand.

My feeling is this will be here officially in April. This launch is going to be faster than any previous product launches.

Indications: iPad didn’t sell out in stores around the USA. It is in short supply but most still had stock.
Apple just announced they sold 3 Million in 3 days. That’s a crazy number and I think it means they were prepared for unprecedented demand and have adjusted production accordingly. I think they’ll be making them faster than ever.
And of course they have an interest in curbing the grey market which generally means higher prices for their customers with benefits going to the middlemen.

went to MBK yesterday, only asked for 32gb WIFI Ipad3 as that what I’m interested in, found this info

32gb Wifi – price range 21000baht – 23000baht depending on how hardcore you want to bargain

When I asked them, most of them got the products from either Hong Kong (which their price is AU$590) and Australia (AU$649).

Considering price range at MBK range around $655 – $700 (based on AU$1 = 32baht), I think it reasonable to purchase it on the price 21000baht or below. Will try to bargain more today and set a benchmark under 21000 baht, then its worth buying.

Anyway, just need info if I decided to buy it from MBK, does the warranty will be international warranty? since this is my first time to buy stuff from MBK.

    Thanks

No warranty for Thailand until it is officially released here. You would need to take it to Singapore (Someone told me this last year after he did just that). Most items I bought from MBK I have had to take back. As long as you buy a genuine Apple then you should be alright. I bought my iPad 1 from a shop at MBK. No problems with it. Let me know how you get on. I skipped buying iPad2 but might go for this one.

The offical apple stores in thailand told me, that the new i pad 3 will be on stock
in about 1,5 to 2 month. Some free shops offer it now. But around 20-25 % higher prices. So it makes sense to wait some weeks and save minimum 5000 Bath. I think this i pads 3 are coming from hongkong they are selling now.

This launch is different – scalpers are now sitting on wares and unable to sell them, some even say the market is “flooded” – this is in China and other places.

Therefore I think prices as quoted in the original post (+2,000 baht) are realistic, don’t pay more than that. It’s a buyer’s market. And since there seems to be plenty of stock in the 34 countries where the iPad 3 is now officially sold, I imagine it will come to the Thailand online Apple store shortly.
